Useful Websites

The websites listed below are useful resources to help you study for your AS/A Level Mathematics.

http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/
This site contains resources, projects, and publications. Interactive resources include an 'audit of A level maths knowledge' – Pure. This is an on-line test, containing 29 questions which are computer marked then a report is generated. There is a link to paper based tests on Pure, Mechanics and Statistics and solutions can be printed off. Text book style notes on A level course material (MEP) are also available.

Produced in consultation with specialist teachers, AS Guru Maths online focuses specifically on those parts of the core curriculum that have proven the most difficult for students to deal with.
Divided into

  • Methods (Functions and graphs, differentiation and integration.)
  • Pure (Develops the study of functions – trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential.)
  • Statistics (Covers data collection, random variables, Binomial, Normal and rectangular distributions, sampling and estimation.)
  • Topics contain a teaching page, sometimes an activity page and sometimes a set of questions.

http://www.counton.org
A level includes pure maths only (Maths Direct). The site offers tutorials, exercises and tests with fully worked solutions. There are full A level papers with mark-schemes based on the English P1 and P2 syllabus, but contains lots of relevant material for all Pure maths work.

The 'Gallery' section contains 'multimedia learning units' on mathematical subjects. The Interactive tests contain very good matching activities offering repeat tests with different but similar questions. The site also contains a 'Puzzle Workshop'.

www.mathsnet.net/
The A level option on this site is based on the English syllabus C1, C2 etc. However, the topic lists are very clear enabling its use for any A level maths syllabus covering Pure Maths, Statistics, and Mechanics. The site contains interactive materials. Questions have step by step solutions and can be changed to give many further similar examples. A nice feature is the 'Graph Centre', which plots basic shapes of standard graphs and with the use of 'sliders' the values of parameters can be changed to show how the shape of the graph is affected. There is also a good glossary of terms and common notation list.
